It couples state-of-the art weather forecasts with a hydrological model and with its continental scale set-up provides downstream countries with information on upstream river conditions. It provides complementary, added-value information (e.g. probabilistic, medium range flood forecasts, flash flood indicators or impact forecasts) to the relevant national and regional authorities. Furthermore, EFAS keeps the  Emergency Response Coordination Centre  (ERCC) informed about ongoing and possibly upcoming flood events across Europe. Some of the applications that use soil depth are archived in MARS with the unit meters (m), but this is not the case for LISFLOOD soil depth which is used in EFAS and is measured in millimetres (mm). We specialise in delivering tailor-made training courses to any industry, anywhere in the UK. We have training centres around the country which we use to deliver a variety of courses every month for anyone to come along and learn life saving skills. To that end we organise the structure and content of the EFAS Instructional Courses, normally held three to four times a year at a variety of locations across Europe. We provide a core faculty for these courses but are also committed to working alongside local faculty colleagues. A technical issue linked with the processing of SYNOP data at ECMWF has impacted the quality of the SYNOP layer shown on EFAS. This does not have any impact on the EFAS service which does not use the data stream used in the SYNOP layer. The GFM product is designed to deliver, in near real-time, critical information on ongoing floods events to users worldwide, including national authorities, emergency units, research centres, decision-makers and other stakeholders.
